The memorials in a vintage car

A 2-hour guided tour in an electric vintage car with open sides, from 15th Street to the Capitol, the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials, the MLK Memorial and the White House. Pick the night departure for the monuments lit up, a small group and a guide who stops wherever the photo is.

Day & Night Tour in a Vintage Car

About this experience

The listing calls it a luxury vintage car; it runs on an electric motor and has open sides, so nothing blocks the view. Your guide gives the commentary as you go. The listed stops are Capitol Hill, the Lincoln Memorial, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the MLK Memorial, the Washington Monument and the White House, with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the FDR Memorial and Lafayette Square also on the route. The order can change with road or monument closures, per the listing. It runs day or night; pick night for the floodlit memorials.

On foot, you decide. The itinerary gives about 15 minutes at the Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial, 10 at the MLK Memorial and 5 at the Washington Monument and the White House: roughly an hour off the car in 2 hours. Every stop is optional, so you can step out for the photo or stay in your seat. One guest below did just that for her mother. The Washington Monument itself is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., so after dark you see it lit from outside, not from the top.

Included: the guide, the car, the commentary, the photo stops and optional souvenir stops. Not included: food, drinks, tips and entry tickets, per the listing (the open-air memorials are free anyway). You meet at 515 15th St NW and finish there. The tour runs rain or shine, and if it is called off for a dangerous situation you hear at least 1 hour before. Wheelchair users can join with their own chair if they tell the operator at booking; the listing says the tour is not suitable for visually impaired guests.
